Embassy of Ireland, Paris

We are delighted that Ambassador Niall Burgess has offered to host our colloquium at the Embassy of Ireland to France. Located at 12 avenue Foch (entrance at 4 rue Rude) this magnificent building, the former Hôtel de Breteuil, was built in 1892 for the 8th Marquis de Breteuil (1846-1916) and has been the embassy of Ireland since 1954.

Ambassador Burgess is no stranger to the world of Joyce. He has described himself as “a reader of Joyce, a lover of his work .”  The ambassador is particularly excited by Joyce’s experiences in France, and the traces of his time there that still remain.  Sometimes,” the ambassador has conceded, “my love for his work tilts towards obsession.”
